Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about becoming a Budget Ride driver in NSW.

The typical approval process takes 1-3 business days once all required documents have been submitted. If your application is complete and all documents are valid, you may be approved within 24 hours. You'll receive an email notification once your application has been reviewed.

You need to have either comprehensive or third-party property damage insurance for your vehicle. The policy must list you as an insured driver. While rideshare-specific insurance is not mandatory, we recommend checking with your insurance provider to ensure your policy covers rideshare activities, as some standard policies may not cover commercial use of your vehicle.

Yes, you can use a rental car for Budget Ride, but the vehicle must meet all our requirements and be registered as a Passenger Transport Vehicle. Additionally, you must be listed as an authorized driver on the rental agreement, and the rental agreement must explicitly permit using the vehicle for rideshare purposes. We recommend using rental services that specifically offer rideshare-approved vehicles.

Yes, you must have your own Australian Business Number (ABN) and be registered for GST. As a Budget Ride driver, you operate as an independent contractor, not an employee. You'll be responsible for your own tax obligations, including submitting Business Activity Statements (BAS) and paying GST. If you don't already have an ABN, you can apply for one through the Australian Business Register website.

Earnings vary based on factors like location, hours worked, and demand. Budget Ride drivers in NSW typically earn between $25-$35 per hour before expenses during peak times. Our fair commission structure means you keep more of what you earn compared to other platforms. You can maximize your earnings by driving during high-demand periods like weekday mornings, evenings, and weekend nights.

Yes, Budget Ride drivers are free to work with multiple rideshare platforms simultaneously. There are no exclusivity requirements. Many drivers use multiple apps to maximize their earning potential and reduce wait times between rides. Just ensure you're providing quality service to all passengers regardless of which platform they're using.
